Mentorship: How to Find a Mentor in Ghana (and How to Get the Most From One)

To find a business mentor in Ghana, start with people who have already done what you want to do, then approach them with one specific problem and a clear request. Platforms such as VC4A list mentors based in Ghana, and programmes like our Mentorpreneurship Cohort give you a mentor inside a structured plan.

Where can you find a mentor?

  • Mentor platforms. VC4A lists mentors in Ghana by expertise, including fundraising and business models.
  • Programmes and cohorts. Our Mentorpreneurship Cohort pairs mentorship with projects and a peer group.
  • Your own network. Business owners you already respect, past employers and community leaders.
  • Events and talks. Meet people in person and follow up within a week.

What should you ask a mentor?

Do not ask "Will you be my mentor?" Ask a specific question about a problem you are working on: how to price, how to hire the first person, how to prepare for a pitch. If the conversation is useful, ask for a second one.

How do you get the most from mentorship?

  1. Bring a clear problem to each meeting.
  2. Do what you agreed to do before the next one.
  3. Report back on what happened.
  4. Respect their time, and say thank you.

What does the Mentorpreneurship Cohort include?

It is a three-month, execution-first programme: foundations and mindset in month one, business simulation and leadership in month two, and pitch lab, partnerships and funding in month three. Editions are Go (GHS 1,000), Plus (GHS 2,000, with a 1:1 mentor) and Pro (GHS 3,200). Read what is Mentorpreneurship.
